A Crucial M500 240GB, preemptively replacing the 160GB WD Caviar that I've had for at least eight years. That drive still hasn't died, but I expect it to croak within the next year, bathtub curve and all...

Mom just got a job offer, for over twice what she's making now, at the hospital she's currently working at as a contractor. She's taking it, so assuming it doesn't fall through, we should start (finally) catching up on all our debts next month.

If you have to jump-start your car just to get its mileage, you might be a redneck.

Though it wasn't mine, it was mom's. Still...

Mom bought a water heater today, I cleaned out the garage enough so the thing could be installed. That's happening tomorrow. Who knew you need a fucking building permit to replace a water heater nowadays?

Gonna have to wait til after Christmas to get mom's car registered, and then hauled over to Poway Ford to get a new battery, oil change and brake work.

So, this new graphics card? WHQL drivers for it have a nasty lockup issue that takes about 36 hours to reveal itself. Whether at idle or in game. New beta drivers as of four days ago *might* fix the issue, but the only other method is to do some .inf editing to cajole an older version to accept the card. *shrugs*

Anyway, mainly posting this to see how effective posting from my smartphone is.

So yeah, I'm still alive, still unemployed, still haven't finished college, no longer broke as fuck, and have upgraded my computer quite significantly. Oh, also, got a smartphone - I'm only maybe three or four years late in that regard. Samsung Galaxy S3, if anyone's wondering. Have had it less than a day and I've already customized the fuck out of it. Spent several hours geeking out with scanning QR codes before that novelty wore off, and only this morning discovered that the Google Play store has InSSIDer. :D

As for computer upgrades, my previous entry indicated that I was going SSD and Win7. Did both of those, the SSD is a Corsair Force 3 120GB, I've had it for almost a year now and it's still awesome. Did some more upgrades, one of which is still pending (god damn UPS takes forever to ship) - finally got a replacement for the 500GB drive that died a long time ago: a 480GB VisionTek GoDrive SSD. Waiting on a video card upgrade - replacing my 6+ years-old XFX Radeon 4890 1GB with a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4GB. Overkill for my purposes, I know, but it's future-proofing.

Stuck on the laptop now because my desktop's system drive just died. Knew it would happen eventually, so in about a week or so I'll be going solid-state, and consequently I'll be moving to Windows 7 as well.

What do you think is the best cartoon ever? (You can choose whether 'cartoon' means an animated series or a daily comic strip.)
Rabbit Seasoning.

If you ate school lunches as a kid, what menu item did you most dread seeing on the week's menu list? Or, if you more often brought a lunch from home, what did you hope wasn't inside your lunchbox or bag when you opened it up? What made this item so revolting for you?
Regular milk. Whenever they'd run out of chocolate milk.

Where do you get your news from -- cable news channels, online sources, radio? When you hear a story that you find interesting (or maddening), do you immediately go searching for more stories about it?
Two main sources: Google News and Fark.
